Original Character Drawing Competition

MECHANICS

1.The competition is strictly for the development of original character designs. Any fan-art entry registered in this competition will immediately be disqualified.
2.The competition will be divided into two categories:

1.Non-Professional/Amateur Category (must be at least 13 years old)
2.Professional Category (must be at least 18 years old / with current or previous work experience in any visual arts-related firm).

3.There will be three(3) winners in every category.
4.All entries must  use of 9x12 white drawing paper and must follow the following format:

–Page 1 - must show the entry character in full-figure, full-color, action-pose presentation. Entry Sender has the choice of what coloring material to use ie. Watercolor, poster color, digital color, etc. Paper orientation for Page 1 must be Vertical (Portrait Orientation) with the character drawn at approximately nine (9) inches in height.

–Page 2 must show the entry character in full turn-around and in black & white.

A full turn-around is a series of drawings showing the character in: front view, quarter view, side view, and back view. Use of black ink pen instead of pencil is recommended to prevent accidental or malicious erasures on submitted work. Paper Orientation for Page 2 must be horizontal (landscape orientation) with the character drawings at approximately five(5) inches in height.

5.The entry sender must not write nor sign his name on any of the drawings. Any special codes or markings (which may reveal the identity of the entry sender) must be avoided as this could mean automatic disqualification of the entry.
A standardized numbering system shall be made on the drawings by the Organizing Committee to ensure impartiality in the judging process.

6.All entries must be submitted with an attached one-page Bio-data of the sender to the AnimExplosion Organizing Committee Secretariat  located at the following address:

7.Entries can be submitted in person or by traditional mail. E-mail entries will not be honored.
8.Cash prizes and trophies await the six(6) contest winners.
8.DEADLINE OF ENTRIES : 10:00 P.M. October 24, 2000

9.A panel of judges composed of animation directors from ACPI member-studios shall conduct a preliminary elimination round and choose the twenty-five (25) best entries for the Amateur Category and another set of twenty five(25) best entries for the Professional Category.

10.All entries will be on display at the Megatrade Hall, 5th floor of SM Megamall Mandaluyong City from 03 to 05 November 2000 with the names of the top fifty(50) finalists in both categories posted at the Exhibit Area.

11.All entries shall automatically become property of the Animation Council of the Philippines.

12.Final judging shall be conducted by a team composed of our invited Japanese Manga Creators/Editors and Anime Directors during the festival. Criteria are as follows:

            Originality                                60%
            Visual Impact/Artistic Appeal   20%
            Workmanship                          20%
            TOTAL                         100%

13.Announcement of Winners shall be made on November 03 at 6 P.M.at the Megatrade Hall I during the final program of the 3-day festival.
14.Only after a 30-day contestability period shall cash prizes be awarded to the winners.
15.In any event that any of the winning entries was found fraudulent or mis-categorized                  (ie. professional entry categorized by the sender under amateur category) , the prize trophy shall be revoked  and shall automatically go to the next  highest-rated entry.

Fan Art  Competition
 

1.The competition is strictly for fan-art – defined as personal representations of existing anime characters.  Original characters will not be considered for this event.
2.The competition will be divided into two categories, namely Kiddie Fan-art (Children aged 12 & below.) and Amateurs/Hobbyists (Participants aged 13 & above).
3.All entries will be drawn on the spot on Friday, 03 November 2000 at 11:00 AM for the Kiddie Category and on Saturday, 04 November 2000 at 11:00 AM for the Hobbyist .
4.All entries will be drawn in color on 9x12 drawing paper. Participants have the option as to what coloring material to use.
5.Criteria for judging is as follows:

            Adherence to Original Character Design            40%
            Visual Impact/ Artistic Appeal                                    30%
            Workmanship/Quality of Finished Work               30%
Three winners will be chosen in each category.
6.Prizes are as follows:
            Kiddie Category
            First Prize               Php 5,000.00
            Second Prize            Php 3,000.00
            Third Prize               Php 1,500.00
 

            Amateurs/Hobbyists Category
            First Prize               Php 10,000.00
            Second Prize            Php   5,000.00
            Third Prize               Php   2,500.00

8.All entries will be on display at the Exhibit Area of the convention venue from 03 to 05 November 2000 prior to judging.
9.Winners of both categories will be announced on 05 November 2000                        at 6:00 PM.

Interscholastic Anime Trivia Quiz
Mechanics


 

1.The competition will be divided into two divisions:  secondary and tertiary.

2.For the secondary level, a two-batch elimination round with five teams competing in each batch will be held on Friday, 03 November 2000.  One winner will be chosen from each batch.

3.For the tertiary level, another two-batch elimination round with five teams competing in each batch will be held on Saturday, 04 August 2000.  As above, one winner will be chosen from each batch.

4.The winners from both eliminations will be pitted against each other at the finals on Sunday, 05 August 2000.

5.The points-per-round (elimination level) are as follows: Easy Round – 1 point per correct answer, Medium Round - 5 points per correct answer, and Difficult Round – 10 points per round.

6.The points per round (final round) are as follows: Easy Round – 5 points per correct answer, Medium Round – 10 points per correct answer, and Difficult Round – 20 points per correct answer.

7.As in any competition, the team with the highest number of points will be declared the winner.


Costume Play

all you have to do is wear your favorite anime costume at the convention.
